Our Human-Centric Intelligence Policy guides the creation of our products and works that promote critical thinking and creativity, to democratize people's access to knowledge.
Introduction and Motivation
We live in an era of accelerated transformation, driven by increasingly sophisticated technologies—from artificial intelligence, interactive immersive systems, and automation. However, as these tools gain traction, a legitimate concern arises: are we using technology to augment our human capabilities or to replace them?
At Dumont, we believe that technology must be applied with intention, ethics, and sensitivity. Therefore, we developed our strategy and actions based on the Human-Centric Intelligence Policy (HCI Policy)—a term coined and consolidated by researchers such as Emilia Gómez, Fernández Llorca, and Martínez Plumed, within the context of European Union public policies. [Glossary o...e - Europa]
This approach is based on the principle that intelligence is, first and foremost, human—and that technologies should serve people's cognitive, creative, and social development. HCI Policy proposes that technological systems, works, and products be designed to respect autonomy, promote creativity, and expand our repertoire, rather than indiscriminately replacing or automating our capabilities.
What is it?

"What is the HCI Policy?
The HCI Policy is a set of principles that guides all our creations — whether they are products or works. Inspired by debates on AI alignment, Security by Design, and Ethics, this policy seeks to ensure that technology is aligned with values, promoting autonomy and creativity.
More than a technical guideline, the HCI Policy is a philosophy of creation: intelligence is not just in algorithms, but in how we use our cognition and skills to express ideas, build knowledge, and movements.
Our Alignment Pillars
The HCI Policy is structured on three fundamental pillars:
Agency Every work we create must strengthen the capacity for individual choice, expression, and action. We value experiences that respect each person's time, context, and goals.
Cognition Technology must be a catalyst for cognitive processes, such as learning, thinking, perception, memory, and creativity, that allow individuals to understand and interact with the world. Our initiatives encourage creation, experimentation, and collaboration among diverse minds, promoting intellectual development with education as a purpose.
Responsibility We believe that technology should be safe and centered on human well-being, drawing inspiration from initiatives such as Safe-by-Design — by Yoshua Bengio — which promotes technical solutions for secure and human-protection-oriented Intelligent Systems. We prioritize the protection of privacy, ensuring that individuals' data and interactions with our work are treated with transparency, responsibility, and respect.
Why?
With the advancement of technologies, we observe a concerning trend: the increasing delegation of cognitive tasks to automated systems and the reduction of time dedicated to reading and reflection in society. Recent data reveals that over 50% of Brazilians do not read books regularly, and school performance in reading and text interpretation is below the international average, as indicated by assessments such as PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment). These factors can contribute to the erosion of essential human skills, such as critical thinking, communication, and creativity.
However, we recognize the immense potential of technologies as tools for support and creation. At Dumont, our mission is to reverse this trend by using technology to connect people with knowledge and creative expression. We prioritize the development of solutions based on an anthropological approach that values and promotes fundamental human skills — such as critical thinking, reading, writing, and collaboration. These competencies, which are central to individual and collective development, reflect our vision of alignment.
Commitment
Our commitment is to create products and works that don't replace, but rather amplify human capabilities. Beyond formal education, we believe that culture, design, and art are also forms of learning and expression. Therefore, we work on multiple fronts, always guided by the Human-Centric Intelligence Policy, to build an ecosystem where innovation respects and supports the potential of every human being.
